The Office of the Executive Director of the US House of Representatives has banned the download of the TikTok social networking platform application on official devices used by its members and employees.
In the United States, the House of Representatives has banned official devices used by its members and employees from downloading the TikTok social networking platform application.
The House Executive Director’s office announced the ban by sending an email to House members and staff.
The notice stated that “The Cyber Security Bureau has accepted the TikTok app as a significant security risk” and that apps pre-installed on government-owned devices must be removed.
FBI Director Chris Wray also indicated that control of TikTok is in the hands of the Chinese government and said this raises concerns about US national security.
On the other hand, TikTok’s director of operations, Vanessa Pappas, declared at a US Senate hearing in September that the Chinese government does not have access to the app’s data.
