Hollywood took over Mexico’s magical places as recording studios after drawing inspiration from Mexican culture for its films.
The Hollywood industry is one of the highest standards of cinema, but Mexican culture, as well as some places in Mexico, are inspired by many of its films, taking them as records.
And on different occasions we have been able to witness this by the great movement of people that it has caused, as happened with the film James Bond 007, which was filmed in the main square of Mexico City, with the streets closed and with the help of many extras.
But there were others who, after appearing on the big screen, boosted tourism in that place. So, to make you feel like you’re inside a movie, we’re sharing with you the Mexican places where Hollywood movies were shot and that you can visit in 2023.
Huasca de Ocampo, Hidalgo – “The Mask of Zorro”
In 1998, Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta-Jones starred in the film “La Máscara del Zorro”, where the Spaniard gives life to the masked hero to fight the governor of California. For this tape, scenes were recorded in different parts of Mexico, such as Sonora, Tlaxcala and the State of Mexico, but the most memorable was the magical town of Huasca de Ocampo, Hidalgo, for Ex Hacienda de Santa María Regla.
Rosarito, Baja California – “Titanic”
Produced by James Cameron, Titanic, starring Leonardo DiCaprio (Jack) and Kate Winslet (Rose), was one of the highest-grossing films in the world. As the scenes could not be shot at sea, the producers chose to place a water tank on the beach in Rosarito, Baja California.
Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur – “Troy”
A successful Hollywood film, Troy is based on the passage described by Homer in The Iliad and starring Brad Pitt. Here, the production team decided that the beaches and harbors of Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur.
Yucatan Peninsula – “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”
The movie Black Panther: Wakanda Forever had a lot of Mexican undertones, so it wasn’t easy to see that Mexico was part of its scoring sets. So the team traveled to the Yucatan Peninsula to record a segment.
San Andres Tuxtla, Veracruz – “Apocalypto”
Hollywood was also responsible for creating one of the most famous films, Apocalypto, produced by Mel Gibson. For its record, the municipality of San Andrés Tuxtla, in Veracruz, was chosen because its natural ecosystem perfectly helped to transport the public to the Mayan territory in pre-Columbian times.
